Kikwete launches Ngudu water project

President Jakaya Kikwete launched Lake Victoria water extension projects from Mhalo Village to Ngudu town on Saturday and hailed the Ministry of Water for completing the project within the envis.

Mr Kikwete said here that he had promised residents of Ngudu town, Kwimba District in Mwanza Region that his government would provide Water from the Lake, the pledge which has now been fulfilled.
He said that from this wonderful job, residents in Ngudu town are enjoying water services as planned, bringing to an end woes that afflicted residents for many years.

He also challenged them to jealously protect the infrastructure for them to fully enjoy the service. He urged the beneficiaries of the project to reveal the names of vandals who are likely to damage the network.
He said that the people of Ngudu should consider the project as theirs and should protect it. The Kahama-Shinyanga Water Supply Authority (KASHWASA) Executive Director, Eng. Clement Kiyegalo, said that the project is a milestone in Kwimba’s history.
It will end the critical shortages of water that appeared to be endless. He said that the project will have cost 2.8bn/- until it is finished.
The Kwimba District Commissioner (DC), Mr Selemani Mzee, said that his district has set up water committees. He also said funds have been raised by residents in the 112 villages for water projects.
He said that before the project, Kwimba residents were accessing water service for few hours where the population was 11,646 – equals to 46 per cent of total population of Ngudu town.

The water accessibility was less than 24 litres per person per day for average of 2 hours a day. The Mwanza Regional Commissioner (RC), Eng. Evarist Ndikilo appealed to kwimba residents to protect the project and said the sense of ownership should be put in place for sustainable water services development.
