Girl child honoured globally today
As the world marks the Day of the Girl Child today, the European Union (EU) in Tanzania has lauded the Constituent Assembly (CA) move on reviewing the legal marriage age for girls in the Proposed Constitution.

EU’s country head of Cooperation, Mr Eric Beaume, deemed it a bold move aimed at protecting the rights of girl children.
“”We trust that further progressive development suggested by the Constitutional Review Commission will see the light in the future Constitution. I hear that the last draft of the Constitution sets the legal age for marriage at 18 for both boys and girls, and we certainly welcome this as an important milestone to curb early marriage,” he noted on Thursday evening in Dar es Salaam, while launching a new book entitled: ‘Because I’m a Girl’ which focuses on girls’ human rights protection globally.
Mr Beaume also commended the efforts by the government in helping the girl child. “In Tanzania, more specifically, we have witnessed some positive developments whereby in recent years national authorities have shown increasing commitment towards children’s and women’s rights,” he said.
