K’njaro gets 8bn/- building material factory

Kilimanjaro Region has embarked on tapping available opportunities, with a Chinese firm investing five million US dollars (over 8bn/-) in a building material factory at Lokolova in Rombo District.
Managing Director of Jun Yu Ltd that runs the venture, Mr Danny Wang, told the Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlement, Professor Anna Tibaijuka, here that they have hit the ground running and hope that in the next 10 years they will have revolutionised the town.
Mr Wang said they have installed some machines, which are due for testing in two months and by next April; production of cement will commence, then other products such as stainless round bars and aluminum will be introduced gradually.
The director noted that they are determined to invest in large scale to the extent of meeting local requirements and export some of the products.
He said that in future, the company has plans to put in place towers to house tourists, who come to the country for among other things trek Mount Kilimanjaro.
Kilimanjaro has embarked on several projects to diversify its economy, instead of relying much on tourism and agriculture.
