Muheza to reimburse money for unfinished projects

Muheza District Council will have to return all the money for unfinished infrastructure development projects in Mkinga District under Tanzania Social Action Fund’s (TASAF) second phase. Mkinga councillors raised the issue at a one-day sensitization seminar on TASAF Phase Three projects at district level, over the weekend.
The third phase envisages elimination of poverty among poor families in the district. The councillors wanted to know as to when the unfinished projects, which were started during the second phase would be completed.

During Tasaf II projects, Mkinga was still under Muheza District Council, and all the money was passed through the district council. Responding to the councillors’ argument, TASAF Auditing Manager, Mr Shadrack Mziray, said that he would make a follow up and urge Muheza District Council to return the money which was directed for uncompleted projects in Mkinga.
Mr Mziray said that his office was aware of unfinished projects in Mkinga District and the process was going on to make sure that the money is returned.
“Thank you for reminding me. I ‘m from the department of auditing and will make a follow up to make sure that the money is returned…I think it is about 200 or 180m/-. Muheza council must return this money,” he said.
While clarifying about the matter earlier, Mkinga TASAF Coordinator, Mr Benson Ogada said that the councillors should not blame TASAF Mkinga for uncompleted projects because by the time the projects were implemented, Mkinga was still under Muheza District Council.
“Currently, as Mkinga TASAF Coordinator, I can’t say anything about this matter because Muheza council is in good position to explain about it.
But, I know that there are uncompleted infrastructure development projects like Msimbazi Dispensary and classrooms at Zingibari Secondary School,” he said.
He, however, urged the councillors to focus in implementing TASAF III projects that are targeted at wiping out poverty, while the matter of uncompleted projects were being followed up by TASAF headquarters.
